Players to take on Harlem Wizards announced

CEO Adam Lamprecht revealed the list of 2011 MainStreet Fremont National All Star team, which will take on the Harlem Wizards at 2 pm Sunday at the Midland Center event.

Lamprecht said the team is a combination of something old and something new.

"We have some players returning from last year and some new players as well, so hopefully we can mix the new with the old and out with a product as good as we hope the team of the year last, "he said.

"We just looked for new people may come to play last year and wanted to play, or some area businesses that wanted to go out and play a little basketball," he said.

Fremont National Bank Chairman David Simmons and Vice-President of Barry Benson is the team coach.

The Wizards beat a group of local celebrities over the past year from 79 to 55 in an event to raise money for MainStreet of Fremont. Six members of the local team this year were on the list.

The Wizards, celebrating their 50th anniversary this season, boasts the longest winning streak in all professional sports - more than 2,800 consecutive games.

"I like to think that everyone is there to win, but that's really all for fun and to help raise funds for Mainstreet Fremont," said Lamprecht.

"There are guys who played last year on the team of magicians who will be back, so maybe there will be a little revenge after we see who is playing," he said. "I like to think we have a shot (at winning streak), but probably not."

His team is not going to waste energy in preparation for the match.

"We'll do warm-ups 10 minutes before the game starts and that will be it," said Lamprecht.

The organizers hope to attract the game more than 1,000 people to the game this year to benefit MainStreet, an organization that promotes historic preservation, economic development and commercial activity in downtown Fremont.

Tickets are on sale now at Fremont National Bank, First State Bank and Trust, Pinnacle Bank, Lou Sporting Goods and Sports of Nebraska. Admission is also available at the door.
