U.S. Home Builders Push Back on Congress's Proposed National Ocean Policy

Testifying before the House Committee on Natural Resources, the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) President-elect Barry Rutenberg, a home builder in Gainesville, Fla., said that the use of green building techniques, NAHB members regularly take steps to improve long-long-term preservation and care of the nation's coastal communities of the Great Lakes and Great. As one of the most highly regulated industries, Rutenberg said, home builders already comply with many federal, state and local environmental laws.For example, manufacturers must comply with the National Federal Emergency Management Agency Flood Insurance Program when the site selection, design and construction of their houses meet the mandates of the Clean Water Act to control waste water storm, and demonstrate that their activities are compatible with their state plan coastal zone management, and meet the requirements of local zoning, critical areas or shoreline protection orders.
