The Irish School of Ecumenics, an inter-church group based at Trinity College Dublin, is facing backlash at its plan to host six lectures on anti-sectarian theology in Carrick Town Hall this month and next. The Carrick Free Presbyterian Church is openly opposing the events, describing the organizers as promoting false religion. A statement released by the organizers detailed their reasons for running the seminar: At the heart of sectarian theology is a God image that has become warped and distorted. It is a violent God image which has more to do with our fear of the other and our fear-driven and violent responses to the other. Rev. Philip Gardiner of the Free Presbyterian Church said: The Free Presbyterian Church is opposed to ecumenism since that movement is an attack upon the word of God.
