Want to know where to find the best homeowners insurance companies in California with the best premiums? Here’s where to find them.
California Homeowners Insurance Ratings
There are a number of sources for homeowners insurance plan ratings. We outline three of the best ways below…
Check out California’s Department of Insurance
All states maintain a Department of Insurance website, and most compile an annual list of complaints and issues that have been made against insurance companies. Looking at the list of complaints is an accurate measurement of a company’s reliability. Most insurance companies may have complaints filed against them, and if you find a company has a large number of complaints as opposed to other companies, you should avoid doing business with them.
Some states may not list complaints, and if not, you can go to the website for the California Department Of Insurance (insurance.ca.gov), or the New York State Insurance Department website (ins.state.ny.us) to get this information.
Not only do these websites list consumer complaints, but they also have other information available such as consumer information guides, frequently asked questions about insurance, and insurance policy updates.
J.D. Power & Associates (jdpower.com)
The company J.D. Power & Associates gives out ratings insurance companies based on the opinions of its customers. They rate companies according to coverage options, how cheap the premiums are, the way they handle claims, how pleased people are with the customer service they receive, and overall experience.
These ratings give you a good idea of how a company treats its customers and how reliable it is in paying its claims. Rankings go from “Among the best” (being at the top end of the scale) to “The rest” (all those at the bottom end of the scale). Choose insurance companies that have ratings “About average” or higher.
