Update from State Sen. Steve Bieda
Two programs exist in Michigan to provide health care to children who do not have insurance. Both of these options are designed to help children living in low-income households and are offered at little or no cost. A family of four with an income as high as $44,000 may be eligible. The two programs, Healthy Kids and MI Child, both include dental coverage and have no co-pays. Children with access to health care have better school attendance, learn more and grow into healthier adults. Michigan Strategic Fund and the Michigan Economic Development Corporation approved new economic development and community revitalization programs that will provide $100 million in incentives for highly competitive projects in Michigan, beginning on October 1, 2011. The Michigan Business Development and Michigan Community Revitalization Programs replace the state’s previous MEGA, Brownfield and Historic tax credit programs that were features of the Michigan Business Tax that will be eliminated under business tax restructuring legislation approved and signed into law by Governor Rick Snyder in May. The MSF will consider a number of factors in making these awards, including: out-of-state competition, private investment in the project, business diversification opportunities, near-term job creation, wage and benefit levels of the new jobs, and net-positive return to the state. Business retention and retail projects are not eligible for consideration of these incentives. The Michigan Community Revitalization Program will provide grants, loans, or other economic assistance of up to $10 million to projects that will revitalize regional urban areas, act as a catalyst for additional investment in a community, reuse vacant or historic buildings and promote mixed use and sustainable development.
Insurance Tips for Parents and College Students With students from Michigan heading off to college, the Office of Financial and Insurance Regulation (OFIR) strongly urges these young adults and their parents to review their family’s insurance policies. Parents need to determine exactly what is - and is not - covered for their college-bound children.

Home Insurances :Vacant Home Insurance Policy – What Is It and ...
You have paid for homeowner’s insurance and left for an extended trip. You asked one of your relatives to check up on your house once in a while just to make sure that everything is in order. Not knowing that one day, someone has broken into your house. Your relative comes to your house several days later to check and discovered that the back door is already open. All of your belongings were cleared out by the thieves and some parts of your house were destroyed. Unfortunately, the circumstance stated happens way too often. Homeowners will be gone for a period of time without vacant home insurance, not knowing that their homeowner’s insurance takes effect only while they are living in their house. And so, as a result, the insurance company reduces the amount of claim they will recover since they haven’t changed their insurance while they were gone. The company can also reject the claim altogether. Homeowner’s insurance is very important for your financial protection. But if you feel like going on an extended trip and leave your home (and property) unoccupied for an extended time, do you know that you could drop your home insurance coverage? If you have just left your home unoccupied for 30 days, your homeowner’s insurance may no longer have any effect. You would be devastated to find out that your home is burglarized and your insurance policy won’t do something about it. Unoccupied property insurance includes coverage for your entire home and even other permanent structures on your property like garage or sheds. There are several reasons why unoccupied property insurance may be needed. Extended travel or leaving the house unattended for quite a long time is one example. You will be paying a fee to carry over your full homeowner’s insurance if you will be gone for more than your insurance provider’s set limit for unoccupied property.
