Two local maritime companies supplying Navy

In a repeat performance of sorts, two local maritime businesses teamed up to provide the Navy with a floating gas station. Hollywood-based Metal Trades Inc ., working as a subcontractor to Charleston's Maybank Industries , recently completed two 7,000-barrel, double-hull fuel barges for the service, according to a report last week in MarineLog.com .

Designed by Bristol Harbor Group , the vessels haul conventional diesel and a special aircraft fuel called JP-5 in four tanks encased in a 180-foot-long by 44-foot-wide hull. These two barges, YON-332 and YON-333, are being delivered to Pacific Naval Facilities.

Metal Trades will be launching two more double-hull barges this year for the same customer, with final delivery to undisclosed Navy destinations on the East Coast.

This is the second time that Metal Trades and Maybank have teamed up to provide a new type of double-hull barge for the Navy, partly to comply with the Oil Pollution Act of 1990. The previous effort entailed the manufacturing of two 14,000-barrel vessels.

Taste test

Many people already know Charleston is one of the tastiest towns in the South with all of its great restaurants, but now the Holy City has a chance to win the title.

Southern Living magazine has listed 10 cities on its website in the running for "Tastiest Town in the South."

Among them, in the order of votes amassed last week, are Lafayette, La.; Louisville, Ky.; Charlottesville, Va.; New Orleans; Houston; Charleston; Decatur, Ga.; Birmingham, Ala.; Raleigh; and Baltimore.

Southern Living editors chose the top 10 towns based on the following criteria:

--Food as a cultural identity: The unique food or ethnicity that defines a Southern region.

--Growth of a culinary-minded community: The influence that the culinary industry has on the local community and tourism.

Recently, Nancy Pelosi said that the girl counted about 30 Blue Dogs who does support a public option. Blue Dog easy chair Stephanie Herseth-Sandlin disagreed:
"There was some suggestion that there were 20," Herseth Sandlin said. "There clearly are not. Through the numbers that I have seen, although not everyone has published the surveys, even when they had and they all said yes it wouldn t always be 20. Right now it s less than a dozen.Inch
It s a significant amount, because if Herseth-Sandlin is right, the Blue Dogs probably have the ability to block a open public option. If Pelosi is right, they will don t.
You'll find 53 members of the Blue Dog caucus. It takes Forty Democrats to keep just about any bill from moving. If Herseth-Sandlin loses 30 members, her hand collapses.
As an inveterate political election counter, my aerial went up when the girl said a "dozen. In . That figure may well be appropriate, but if it is, the Blue Dog position has become completely incoherent and they ve experienced so many members change their minds so many times that will no one should consider them as "principled" in the common sense of the word. They seem rather to advance in a helter skelter fashion to mirror whatever the lobbyist strategy of your day is for maximizing business looting of the health care expenses, and any expectation that they'll reflect what their particular constituents want will be futile.
So without further ado (but with significantly thanks to the volunteers who taught me to be put the information together), here is a brief good the Blue Dogs as well as the public option:
