Grosse Pointe Woods police are investigating the burglary of a Blairmoor Court home that happened Friday while the homeowners were out to dinner.
The homeowners left for dinner about 6:15 p.m. and returned home about 9:15 p.m. when one of them first noticed that a bag of loose change was on an ottoman in the living room that had not been there before they left. The couple found that a window to the garage had been broken out and that a sliding glass door was ajar in the back of the home. When officers arrived, they walked through the home with one of the homeowners to retrieve their St. Bernard dog. After the dog was removed the officers asked the homeowner to identify what was out of place throughout the house. The burglar got away with some costume jewelry but did not take other valuables that were in open view of areas where he or she had been, such as an Apple laptop. The burglar ransacked an upstairs bedroom, pulling bedsheets away from the bed, a bookshelf downstairs and other areas. The burglar did not enter the bedroom with the dog, which was closed. Police believe the burglar left the home in a hurry and found that a bunch of bananas had been moved in the kitchen, including one that was left in the living room near the loose change on the ottoman. The residents were asked to inventory their belongings and provide police with an accurate list of what was missing. They also took a cinder block used to break a window into evidence, according to a report.
