At The Balcony on Dock. Breakfast and networking will begin at 8:00 a.m. followed by Schwitzgebel who will provide a coastal perspective of North Carolina’s BEACH Plan from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
North Carolina’s Beach Plan was established to serve as a state fund to provide property insurance coverage for coastal homeowners in the barrier islands who could not obtain coverage for windstorm damage from the private market. The Plan has since expanded to include 18 coastal counties and is known to many as the “plan of last resort” as it has become the first and only choice of coverage for many coastal homeowners.
Schwitzgebel, who most recently served in the role of Assistant Vice President at Builders Mutual Insurance, will discuss her new role at the NCIUA/NCJUA, what responsibilities she has as the new General Manager and what her goals and objectives are moving forward. She will also cover the overall finances of the BEACH Plan and the issue of reinsurance and what potential challenges, opportunities and changes may lie ahead, particularly in light of the 2009 state legislation on homeowners insurance (HB1305). The presentation will also include the new Director of Claims, Mr. Bob Eades and the Director of Finance, Alvin Ashworth.
This event is ideal for residential and commercial developers, builders, realtors, homeowners, insurance agents, engineers, attorneys, bankers, municipalities and others. Cost to attend the presentation is free for BASE members, $15 for the members of the Wilmington-Cape Fear Home Builders Association (WCFHBA) and $20 for nonmembers of either organization.
