District Supt. of Schools Dr. Lynn DeHart announced that the MPISD Board had been awarded a training grant through the Robert & Ruby Priddy Charitable Trust, selected as one of five districts in the state to participate in the Center for Reform of School Systems’ (CRSS) fourth Reform Governance® in Action (RGA) for Mid-Urban Texas School Districts program. DeHart told the board his considered the grant “a wonderful honor.” He said, “Application was a complicated process in which every board member had to submit a resume….This year, school leadership teams from Bastrop, Bryan, Greenville, Mount Pleasant, and Willis independent school districts are taking part in the professional development program.” RGA officials describe the training, which includes three institutes and five onsite workshops, as built on the Reform Governance® model developed by former Houston school board member Don McAdams, as described in his book, “What School Boards Can Do: Reform Governance for Urban Schools”. McAdams is founder and chairman of CRSS. According to CRSS officials, the districts were selected “because they have great potential.” CRSS’ president and CEO Cathy Mincberg was quoted in a press release the Tribune received on the award:  “We believe that as a result of this training, the district governance teams will have a clear understanding of reform policies that contribute to significant improvement in student achievement for all children.” In other business Monday, the board voted to cast 827 of the districts’ Titus County Appraisal District votes to Ezeal McGill; and split the remaining votes three ways between Randy Beckett- 628 votes, Bobby Parr- 627 votes, and David Smith-628 votes. Board President Joey Mayfield recommended to vote spread to the board, since, he said Mike Reynolds had already accumulated the 870 votes from other entities, “more than enough to win a seat on the TCAD Board.
