"We are very sorry that we have to consider a lockout," one of the memos issued last week said. "But it may be the only way to get this Union's attention."
The union responded with a flier that said: "Grinch Threatens Lock Out," and the rest of the text did not suggest , she said, "I'm like wondering if we're next. I'll just hope for the best."
She said the employer changed the practice of giving the workers cash for sick time they didn't use, "and this week they throw us out? It's Christmas time. Nobody wants to lose their job around this time."
A major sticking point is cost-sharing of health insurance. Now, unionized employees don't pay any premiums, and the company has proposed is also proposing that the pension be terminated. In the memo, it said, "It is not fair to our Center that we must pay for benefit programs that are out of touch with today's healthcare economy."
